300! That means I'm 29.97% of the way through, just because somebody decided 1000 wasn't a round enough number and went for 1001.

Sing A Song Of Basie by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross is an interesting collection of Count Basie songs, into which words have been put in place of the horn parts and solos. It’s impressive how well the written words replace the themes of the songs, but what really impressed me were the words in place of the instrumental solos, which fit incredibly well, and were able to be witty in a context that was originally improvised and not at all intended for the human voice. This album could be written off as a novelty if it wasn’t so good.
James Carter’s album Conversin’ With The Elders is essentially a swing album, but it’s also so much more. It’s a collection of very different songs which almost doesn’t fit together, yet it just does. Standout songs for me are FreeReggaeHiBop; a Bebop tune in a reggae style and Composition #40Q which is something like a New Orleans Second Line style march with a dark twist, reminding me a little of Pink Elephants On Parade from Disney’s Dumbo.
Anyway, here's the full and updated list of all 300 albums I've listened to so far from The Penguin Jazz Guide. Feel free to count them yourself to see if there definitely is 300. I've been counting as I've been going so there could be a mistake but we'll know for definite when I get to 1001.
